An introduction to DEVISE’s Reading Room
We are delighted to introduce DEVISE’s Reading Room!
What exactly is it?
As a concept, the Reading Room provides infrastructural facilitation and instructional aid to lesser privileged students studying in government schools of rural Telangana. On the infrastructural side, we have established a physical reading room or a library, equipped with basic furniture. On the instructional side, we have provided them with bilingual (Telugu and English) as well as English books in order to engage them in the practice of reading and comprehending simple English texts.
Why are we doing this?
Our aim is to develop their ability to read and understand the English language, as a lack of such ability acts as a hindrance for these students and structurally excludes them from availing various professional opportunities in the future. The most important objective of the Reading Room is to engage these students in a way that is interactive and interesting and which makes them understand things in the simplest way possible.
Where are we doing this?
The pilot program of the Reading Room is currently underway for class VI students of ZPHS Pudur, Medchal District.
What is new for this academic session?
“We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.”
We asked Ananye Krishna about the new paths that DEVISE is exploring this year. This is what he had to say:
Last year the reading room used to be a one day a week affair where the stories were read aloud by the students and the volunteers tried to explain. This year it is multiple days a week, with a better collection of books and the sessions also include teaching English over and above explaining stories.

DEVISE యొక్క ‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ గురించి మీకు తెలియచేయడం మాకు చాల ఆనందంగా ఉంది.
‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ అనగ ఏమిటి?
గ్రామీణ తెలంగాణలోని ప్రభుత్వ పాఠశాలల్లోచదువుతున్న విద్యార్థుల కోసం ‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ని ప్రారంభించాము. దీని ద్వారా విద్యార్థులకు ఆంగ్లగ్రంథాలను చదవడం మరియు గ్రహించడంనేర్పిస్తాము. మేము వారికి 500కు పైగాద్విభాషా (తెలుగు మరియు ఆంగ్ల ) పుస్తకాలనుఅందించాము. ఈ పుస్తకాలు ఉపయోగించి మేముపిల్లలకు ఆంగ్లం చదవడం నేర్పిస్తున్నాము.
ఈ ‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ యెక్క ప్రయోజనం ఏమిటి?
ఆంగ్ల భాషను చదివి మరియు అర్థం చేసుకునేసామర్థ్యాన్ని విద్యార్థుల్లో పెంచడం మా లక్ష్యం,ఎందుకంటె ఇలాంటి సామర్థ్యం లేకపోవడంవిద్యార్థులకు అడ్డంకిగా మారుతుంది మరియుభవిష్యత్తులో వివిధ అవకాశాలనుచెజారిపోయెలా చేస్తుంది. ‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’లోవిద్యార్థులకు బోధించే విధానం వారిలో ఆంగ్లం నేర్చుకునే ఆసక్తిని కలిపించే లా మరియుసాధ్యమైనంత గా సరళమైన పద్దతిలో వారికిఅర్థమయ్యేలా ఉంటుంది.
మేడ్చల్ జిల్లాలోని ‘జిల్లా పరిషద్ హై స్కూల్,పుడూర్‌’ కు చెందిన 6వ తరగతి విద్యార్థుల కోసం‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ ఒక ప్రాథమిక కార్యక్రమంగాప్రస్తుతం జరుగుతోంది.
ఈ ‘రీడింగ్ రూమ్’ లో కొత్తదెమిటి?
“మేము ముందుకు సాగుతూ, క్రొత్త తలుపులుతెరుస్తూ మరియు క్రొత్త పనులు చేస్తూనేఉన్నాము, ఎందుకంటే మేము పిల్లల ఎదుగుదలనిచూడాలనుకుంటున్నాము. ఈ పని పట్ల మా ఆసక్తిమరియు ఉత్సుకత మమ్మల్ని కొత్త మార్గాల్లోనడిపిస్తుంది.”
ఈ సంవత్సరం ఏ కొత్త మార్గాలనుఅన్వేషిస్తున్నారని ‘అనన్యే కృష్ణ’ని అడగగా అతను చెప్పింది ఇది:
గత సంవత్సరం ‘రీడింగ్ సెషన్’ వారానికి ఒక రోజుమాత్రమే ఉండేది. మా ట్రైనర్లు కథలు చదివివిద్యార్థులకు వివరించెవారు. ఈ సంవత్సరంరీడింగ్ రూమ్ ద్వారా వారానికి 3 సెషన్లుపెడ్తున్నాము మరియు మంచి పుస్తకాల సేకరణతోసెషన్లలో ఆంగ్ల కథలను పిల్లలకు అర్ధం అయ్యేలా వివరిస్తున్నాము.
